The Irish Era of Pirate Radio in Ireland continues. This unique historical documentary made by Miles Johnston on a VHS deck, records one of the most important events in english language broadcasting. The Raids on radio Sunshine and Nova in May of 1983.
Prompted by the masive popularity of a 100 independent stations across the Irish Republic, rumoured secret meetings between Northern Ireland’s single (ONE) independent station station, and RTE and the Irish government prompted raids on these extremly successful and massively popular stations run by ExCaroline and Radio Nordsee veterans Chris Cary, Robbie and Tony Allen… and more. Later legislation was found to be in contempt of Ireland’s consitution, a case that is still open.

The raids against these free independent un fettered by corrupt strangulatory regulation (as in the UK), ran for two and half decades. They finally closed in Dec1988 (See Era 7) The story contnues in Era 6 (Radio Jackie in SW London), and in Era 8 “After The Raids, and how One final Super Pirate was able to broadcast a megawtt in Belfast, from 1998 until Feb 2005 (Energy 106) built by Miles Johnston and Lawrance John.
